How metabolic age is estimated
The calculation starts with BMR from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. For men: BMR equals (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) − (5 × age) + 5. For women, the same formula subtracts 161 instead of adding 5. BMR represents calories burned at complete rest for basic organ function — roughly 60 to 75 percent of total daily expenditure for sedentary individuals.

The reference age whose average BMR is closest to yours becomes your metabolic age. If a 45-year-old woman has a BMR of 1,430 kcal and that matches the population average for age 38, her metabolic age displays as 38 while her chronological age remains 45.
Body fat percentage, when provided, is stored for context but does not alter the core BMR calculation in this version. Lower body fat and higher muscle mass generally correlate with higher BMR at the same weight because muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat.
